Alcohol Prevention Program

enliven Victoria was funded in 2021/22 to deliver a Local Drug Action Team (LDAT) in the south east. The LDAT program supports community organisations to reduce harms from alcohol and other drugs (AOD) in their local area. This program, funded by The Alcohol and Drug Foundation (ADF), focuses on building or extending local partnerships, and developing and delivering evidence-based activities at the grassroots, community level.

The LDAT program uses the strength of community partnerships, local knowledge and commitment to boost the factors that are known to protect against community harms from AOD and, at the same time, reduce risk factors that have been shown to increase harms.

Enliven Victoria’s SE LDAT in 2021/22 focused on social connection and a sense of belonging to community as a factor that protects against AOD related harms. The project utilised enliven’s existing Bicultural Worker network to identify and recruit migrant and refugee community members, and support them to become involved with a local community garden. The focus was on socially isolated community members, particularly women and the funding enabled the creation of a dedicated bed to each garden for culturally significant foods.

Following this initial funding, enliven Victoria is able to apply for another round of grant funding to implement further evidence-based activities in our community. We are currently liaising with the ADF and our partnering agencies to finalise the focus of this next LDAT. Stay tuned for more updates…
